Residents Near Walibi Belgium Upset Over End of Free Annual Passes

Belgium - Residents living near the Walibi Belgium theme park are frustrated over the cessation of free passes, which previously compensated them for noise and traffic disturbances.

With the summer peak season bringing thousands of visitors daily, this change has intensified local grievances.

The park attributed the decision to new tax regulations and legal developments, explaining that free services now incur VAT.

One resident, facing a €840 price for his family’s passes, expressed his discontent, highlighting the past arrangement’s fairness.

Previously, residents enjoyed free entry as compensation for the inconvenience caused by the park’s operations.

However, when he tried to renew his passes in April, he was informed that the free benefit had been discontinued.

The park initially offered a reduced rate of €130 per person instead of €210, but this discount period has ended.

The resident noted that without the free passes, he will be less tolerant of the noise, particularly during events like Halloween, when disturbances are excessive.

Walibi has not directly responded to individual complaints but provided an explanation through a letter, stating that the change was necessary to comply with financial and legal obligations.

According to the letter, free services now require VAT payments, prompting the park to discontinue the free passes to avoid these additional costs.
