Belgium - Despite the ongoing construction for the new Dock World theme area at Walibi Belgium, the popular launch coaster Psyké Underground will continue to operate.
Observations at the park reveal that temporary infrastructure improvements, such as a new exit staircase and a temporary entrance, have been made specifically to ensure the ride can stay open during construction.
Psyké Underground has a rich history, originally opening in 1982 as Sirocco, a Schwarzkopf Shuttle Loop. It was rebranded as Turbine in 2009 before closing for a major renovation. In 2013, it reopened as Psyké Underground, featuring a refreshed launch system. It is expected that Psyké Underground will eventually revert to its old name, Turbine.
The new Dock World theme area, set to open in 2025, is part of Walibi Belgium’s major investment to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
This area will be designed to resemble a bustling harbor city, offering a maritime flair and various family-friendly attractions. Central to Dock World will be a new roller coaster, which is currently under construction.
The new roller coaster, designed by Gerstlauer, is expected to be a family-friendly launch coaster with a unique harbor theme. While there were speculations about the name “Speed Boat” or a shark theme, the official name remains unconfirmed.
This coaster will feature a height of 15 meters, a length of 925 meters, and three dynamic launches, reaching a top speed of 65 km/h.
In addition to the roller coaster, Dock World will also include new restaurants and shops, further enhancing the visitor experience.
Walibi Belgium is also taking measures to address noise concerns from nearby residents by implementing noise barriers and covering the roller coaster’s launch area.
