Maryland - A potential health incident at Six Flags America in Upper Marlboro led to concerns and a response from local fire officials on Wednesday.
According to reports, three lifeguards at different locations within the water park fell ill around 3 p.m., prompting a guest to call 9-1-1.
Fire officials, along with a hazardous materials team, responded swiftly to the call. Upon arrival, they initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the lifeguards’ sudden illness.
Early reports suggested that the symptoms might have been related to chlorine exposure or possibly heat-related illnesses, raising alarms about the safety of the water park’s facilities.
In an official statement, Six Flags America addressed the incident, clarifying the circumstances surrounding the lifeguards’ condition. “Around 3 p.m., a guest called 9-1-1 out of concern for three lifeguards located at different locations who appeared to be ill. Prior to the arrival of any county emergency personnel, members of Six Flags America medical staff provided immediate care for heat-related illnesses,” the statement read.
The park assured the public that their state-of-the-art systems for monitoring and disinfecting the water were functioning correctly. “All systems were checked and found to be in normal range. The pools are open as normal. No chlorine-related illnesses have been reported,” Six Flags America stated.
