Florida - Yesterday, Orlando residents and visitors were treated to an extraordinary sight: a dragon soaring through the sky.
This wasn’t a mythical event but a sneak peek into Universal Studios’ preparations for the new “How to Train Your Dragon” area within their upcoming theme park, Epic Universe.
Scheduled to open in 2025, this innovative project utilizes advanced drone technology to bring the beloved dragons from the franchise to life in the skies over Orlando.
Universal Studios’ Epic Universe will feature a dedicated “How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk” area, designed to immerse guests in the vibrant world of Vikings and dragons.
This section of the park promises a blend of thrilling rides, interactive experiences, and detailed theming to captivate visitors.
Attractions and Experiences
One of the highlights of the Isle of Berk will be Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, a family-friendly roller coaster that simulates the experience of flying on a dragon. Riders will soar around the perimeter of Berk, reaching speeds up to 45 mph, offering a dragon’s eye view of the village and its surroundings.
Another major attraction, The Untrainable Dragon, is a live show inspired by a similar production at Universal Beijing Resort. This show will feature live actors, large-scale puppets, and advanced animatronics, bringing to life the story of Hiccup, Toothless, and their friends as they encounter a mysterious new dragon.
For younger visitors, the Viking Training Camp offers an interactive play area where children can learn about different dragon species while climbing and sliding through various obstacles. Additionally, the Fyre Drill attraction will let guests participate in a water-based target shooting game, honing their skills in dragon firefighting under the guidance of the mischievous Viking twins, Ruffnut and Tuffnut.
Advanced Technology and Immersive Design
The dragon sighting itself is part of Universal Studios’ strategy to integrate cutting-edge technology into their parks and attractions. Universal had filed patents for such technologies years ago, signaling their intention to revolutionize theme park entertainment with innovative drone applications.
The Isle of Berk will feature several animatronic dragons, with some integrated into the architecture of the land, adding a dynamic and interactive element to the environment. Adding dragons to the skies will elevate the experience to a whole new level.
Visitors can look forward to a unique blend of storytelling, technology, and immersive design when the park opens its doors in 2025.
