California - At the recent D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California, Disney announced an addition to Disneyland that pays homage to the company’s founder, Walt Disney.
During the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase, Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences at the Walt Disney Company, revealed plans for the first-ever Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney himself.
This new attraction, titled “Walt Disney – A Magical Life,” is set to debut in 2025 at Disneyland’s Main Street Opera House.
The attraction marks a significant milestone in Disney history, as it brings together the past, present, and future of the company through the advanced technology of Audio-Animatronics, a field that Walt Disney originally pioneered.
The figure of Walt Disney is being created by Walt Disney Imagineering, the creative division responsible for developing Disney’s parks, attractions, and immersive experiences. This new addition will give visitors the unique opportunity to see Walt Disney in a lifelike representation, as if he were still present, continuing to dream and create.
“Walt Disney – A Magical Life” will be featured in the Main Street Opera House, a venue that has historical significance in Disneyland. After its initial run, the new attraction will rotate with the long-standing “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln” show, which also utilizes Audio-Animatronics—a technology that was first introduced by Walt Disney himself in the 1960s.
Josh D’Amaro emphasized the significance of this project during the D23 event, highlighting the involvement of the Disney family in the development process. Roy P. Disney, Walt’s great-nephew, has been closely following the progress and has expressed his support for the project. “Creating our first Walt figure is a huge responsibility, and we’ve brought members of the Disney family along with us for every step of the journey,” D’Amaro said, underscoring the importance of honoring Walt Disney’s legacy in a meaningful and respectful way.
This announcement comes as part of nearly 50 new experiences and attractions that were unveiled at the D23 event, reflecting Disney’s commitment to innovation and storytelling. The introduction of the Walt Disney Audio-Animatronics figure is not just a technical achievement but a tribute to the visionary who changed the landscape of entertainment.
