China - During the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, Disney announced a new and thrilling addition to Shanghai Disneyland: an all-new Spider-Man roller coaster.
This attraction was unveiled during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase by Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences at the Walt Disney Company, as one of nearly 50 new experiences coming to Disney Parks worldwide.
The new Spider-Man ride promises to be an exhilarating experience, with concept art suggesting that it will be a launched roller coaster, a first for Spider-Man-themed attractions within Disney Parks.
The storyline appears to follow Peter Parker, also known as Spider-Man, as he finds himself, and the riders, in a precarious situation that requires quick thinking and high-speed action to escape. Riders will be tasked with following Spider-Man at breakneck speeds as he uses his web-slinging abilities to navigate through a series of dangers.
Concept art revealed during the presentation provides a glimpse into the ride’s setting and mechanics. One image shows a dark ride area where coaster trains are launched out of, hinting at a high-energy start to the adventure.
Another piece of concept art depicts a train on a red track, with Spider-Man shooting webs to prevent containers and canisters from falling onto the train as it speeds by.
The visuals suggest a combination of physical sets and dynamic action sequences, designed to immerse guests in the fast-paced world of Spider-Man.
This new attraction at Shanghai Disneyland marks the latest in a series of Spider-Man-themed experiences across Disney Parks. The character has long been a staple of the Marvel Universe, and his presence in theme parks has grown significantly in recent years.
In 2021, Disney California Adventure opened WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, an interactive dark ride where guests help Spider-Man combat rogue Spider-Bots. The same attraction was also introduced at Disneyland Paris as part of the park’s Avengers Campus, allowing visitors in Europe to experience the thrill of joining Spider-Man in his battle against the out-of-control Spider-Bots. This interactive ride has been well-received for its immersive technology, enabling guests to use hand gestures to sling webs and interact with the ride’s environment, making them active participants in the action alongside Spider-Man.
While specific details regarding the ride’s launch date and exact features have yet to be disclosed, the announcement at D23 has generated considerable excitement among theme park enthusiasts and Spider-Man fans alike.
