Chessington World of Adventures Resort is rumoured to introduce a Minecraft-themed area, following a significant partnership between Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios.
This collaboration aims to bring the popular video game to life through immersive attractions, including a new rollercoaster, enhancing the park’s family-friendly offerings.
Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios Partnership
In November 2024, Merlin Entertainments, the operator of Chessington World of Adventures, announced a strategic partnership with Mojang Studios, the creators of Minecraft. This collaboration involves a £85 million investment to develop Minecraft-themed attractions in existing Merlin parks across the UK and the US, with openings planned between 2026 and 2027. The partnership aims to create immersive experiences that allow fans to engage with the Minecraft universe in real-world settings.
Project Refresh & Renew at Chessington
Prior to the partnership announcement, Chessington World of Adventures initiated a public consultation in September 2024 for “Project Refresh & Renew.” This project focuses on revitalizing the Wild Asia and Explorer Glamping areas, which feature some of the park’s oldest attractions. The proposed development includes a new themed land with immersive experiences, play areas, and a centerpiece rollercoaster featuring both indoor and outdoor elements. The plans also involve re-theming existing rides, such as Kobra, and introducing new indoor attractions and interactive retail and dining options.
Integration of Minecraft Theme
While the official announcement did not specify the theme for Project Refresh & Renew, industry speculation suggests that the new area will be Minecraft-themed, aligning with Merlin’s partnership with Mojang Studios.
