Disneyland Workers Vote to Authorize Strike Amid Contract Dispute

California - Disneyland employees have overwhelmingly voted to authorize a strike, with 99% of the Master Services Council members supporting the action.

This vote could lead to the first significant work stoppage at the Anaheim theme park in 40 years. The vote follows the expiration of the Disneyland employee contract on June 16, 2024, and escalating tensions between workers and management.

Union leaders now have the option to call a strike if they cannot reach a new contract agreement with Disney. The council has pledged to continue negotiations on July 22 and 23, emphasizing that a strike would be a last resort.

Workers have accused Disney of unfair labor practices, including threats of discipline for displaying union buttons, which they argue is a protected form of union activity.

Disneyland spokesperson Jessica Good stated that the company is committed to negotiating in good faith and addressing employees’ concerns.

Meanwhile, around 14,000 workers across Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and Downtown Disney are seeking wage increases, improved safety measures, and changes to attendance policies.

Disney has assured that the park will remain open and operational even if a strike occurs.
