France - In a display of dedication and thrill, Luc de Roo, the General Manager of Walibi Rhône-Alpes, conducted an entire interview while riding the park’s Mystic roller coaster.
As the coaster looped and twisted, Luc shared his extensive journey with Walibi, insights into park transformations, and his pride in the team’s accomplishments.
The interview took place on the Mystic roller coaster, a highlight of the park’s Festival City zone. The roller coaster reaches speeds of up to 85 km/h (53 mph) over a 575-meter track, featuring multiple inversions like the heartline roll and the zero-G roll.
Luc’s career with Walibi spans nearly four decades. He started as a student worker in 1985 and joined Walibi Belgium as a full-time employee in 1986. Over the years, he has taken on various roles across different Walibi locations, eventually becoming the General Manager of Walibi Rhône-Alpes in 2008. “This year marks my 16th year at this park,” Luc said, reflecting on his tenure with a smile despite the coaster’s rapid twists and turns.
Since Luc’s arrival, the park has undergone significant transformations. “We’ve added new attractions, built new restaurants and shops, introduced new shows, and revamped our backstage areas,” he explained, listing the improvements made to enhance the visitor experience and employee working conditions. The goal, as Luc emphasized, has always been to make Walibi a better place for both guests and staff.
When asked about what he is most proud of, Luc’s answer was immediate: “I’m proudest of the team. I hope our staff feels proud to work at Walibi, and proud about all the modifications and new additions we’ve implemented together over the years”.
Mystic is not the only spectacular roller coaster in the park. Walibi Rhône-Alpes recently unveiled Mahuka, a new launched single rail roller coaster in the Exotic Island zone. Mahuka stands at 18.5 meters tall and offers a 600-meter track filled with smooth but intense sensations.
The development of Mahuka and the surrounding area is part of the broader transformation plan, modernizing 85% of the park and adding 15 new attractions in recent years.
