Legoland Windsor’s Sky Rider Permanently Removed Amidst Park Updates

United Kingdom - Legoland Windsor Resort has permanently dismantled its Sky Rider monorail, a fixture since the park’s opening in 1996. The removal was conducted without prior public announcement, with sections of the track already taken down and signage removed, as reported by Theme Park Guide.

Closure Details

Initially, the park’s official website indicated that Sky Rider would be closed for annual maintenance starting September 9, 2024, with a reopening slated for 2025. However, this status has been updated to reflect the ride’s permanent closure.

About Sky Rider

Manufactured by the now-defunct MSI Transportation, Sky Rider was a pedal-powered monorail offering guests elevated views of the park. Its unique design allowed riders to control their speed, providing a leisurely experience above Legoland’s attractions. A similar ride, Get Set Go Tree Top Adventure, operates at Alton Towers, having also opened in 1996.

Recent Park Changes

The removal of Sky Rider follows the closure of Viking River Splash in September 2023, a water rapids ride that had been operational for 16 years. In April 2024, the park introduced Minifigure Speedway, a dual racing roller coaster built by German manufacturer Zierer, enhancing the park’s offerings.

Future Developments

Legoland Windsor has not disclosed plans for the area previously occupied by Sky Rider. The park’s recent pattern of updating and replacing older attractions suggests that new developments may be forthcoming. Guests are encouraged to stay informed through official channels for updates on future additions to the park.
