Marveld’s New Venture: The Bommelwereld Indoor Attraction Park Set to Open in 2025

The Netherlands - Marveld Recreatie, a well-known holiday park in the Achterhoek region of the Netherlands, is expanding in a big way. Edwin Bomers, the director and owner, has ambitious plans to launch a new indoor attraction park called Bommelwereld, adjacent to the existing Marveld Recreatie park.

The park is expected to open its doors in 2025, promising a blend of unique indoor attractions and cultural storytelling centered around Dutch literary icons Heer Bommel and Tom Poes, characters created by writer Marten Toonder.

A Vision for Year-Round Fun

Bomers has a clear vision for Bommelwereld: an attraction park that operates 365 days a year, regardless of weather conditions. This is a key factor in the decision to make it an indoor park. According to Bomers, the Dutch weather is often unpredictable, making it essential to offer a climate-controlled environment where families can enjoy a day out, even during winter. This aligns with the broader strategy of Marveld to provide year-round recreational activities, making it a destination that can attract visitors in all seasons.

The Unique Theme: Dutch Cultural Heritage Meets Modern Entertainment

What sets Bommelwereld apart from other indoor parks is its strong focus on theming. Bomers aims to create a highly immersive environment, drawing inspiration from the classic Dutch comic series by Marten Toonder. The stories of Heer Bommel and Tom Poes, which are part of the Dutch cultural heritage, will be brought to life with themed attractions, including a replica of the iconic Bommelstein Castle, which will serve as the park’s centerpiece. This castle will be akin to the iconic castles seen at other theme parks, serving as both the park’s main entrance and a key attraction.

The integration of Marten Toonder’s work into the park’s theming reflects a broader trend in the attractions industry, where classic stories and national heritage are leveraged to create a unique identity. For Bommelwereld, the choice of Heer Bommel and Tom Poes is a calculated one, as these characters not only appeal to an older audience familiar with the comics but also offer opportunities to educate younger visitors through interactive exhibits and storytelling.

High Expectations: Aiming for Quality Comparable to the Efteling

Bomers has set high standards for Bommelwereld, aspiring to match the level of theming and quality seen at the famous Efteling theme park. The partnership with Jora Vision, a renowned design company in the theme park industry, aims to ensure that every attraction is carefully themed, creating a cohesive and immersive experience. Bomers emphasized that Bommelwereld will not be just a collection of rides but a place where the visitor’s journey is part of a larger story, seamlessly woven through the various attractions.

Opening in 2025: A New Destination for the Achterhoek

Bommelwereld is expected to attract approximately 100,000 visitors annually, with room for growth as the park evolves. The construction is well underway, with the target set for a mid-2025 opening. Bomers is confident that the park will be a unique addition to the Dutch theme park landscape, contributing to the region’s tourism and offering a distinctive alternative to the larger theme park chains.

With its strategic location near major roads and a unique focus on Dutch culture, Bommelwereld is set to become a must-visit destination for both local and international tourists.
