California - During the recent D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California, Disney unveiled plans for an all-new Avatar-themed destination at Disney California Adventure.
As part of the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase, Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences at the Walt Disney Company, shared the exciting news that guests will soon be able to explore Pandora, the awe-inspiring world from James Cameron’s Avatar franchise, in a new and immersive way.
This new expansion at Disney California Adventure is set to draw inspiration from Avatar: The Way of Water, the second installment in the Avatar film series, as well as upcoming sequels.
Unlike Pandora – The World of Avatar, which opened at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida in 2017 and is centered around the lush, bioluminescent rainforests depicted in the original 2009 film, this new area will introduce guests to the expansive, oceanic landscapes featured in the latest Avatar film.
During the presentation, D’Amaro emphasized that this new destination will offer guests a chance to embark on an adventure of a lifetime, exploring the majestic natural wonders of Pandora. The new attraction will take visitors to the wide-open seas of the alien world, where they will encounter the beauty and danger that define the planet’s unique ecosystem. This expansion is expected to deliver an intense and emotional experience, with dynamic storytelling and cutting-edge technology that will immerse guests in the thrilling world of Pandora.
The original Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has been a major success, featuring popular attractions like Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey. These rides have set a high bar for immersive, themed experiences within Disney Parks, combining innovative ride systems with stunning visual effects.
