Florida - During the recent D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, Disney revealed a new addition to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
As part of the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase, Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences at the Walt Disney Company, announced a new show titled “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!” set to debut at the Tree of Life Theater in winter 2025.
The new show will bring characters from Disney Animation’s popular film Zootopia to life in a dynamic and immersive experience. Zootopia, released in 2016, quickly became a fan favorite for its vibrant world-building and engaging story, which follows Judy Hopps, a rabbit who becomes the first of her species to join the Zootopia Police Department, and Nick Wilde, a sly fox who becomes her unlikely partner. Together, they uncover a conspiracy that threatens the peace in their city, which is inhabited by anthropomorphic animals living in harmony.
“Zootopia: Better Zoogether!” will take guests on an adventure through the various biomes of the Zootopia world, much like those depicted in the film. These biomes include Tundratown, the icy district inhabited by arctic creatures; the Rainforest District, a lush, tropical zone; Sahara Square, a desert area; and the downtown cityscape of Zootopia itself. The show will use a combination of advanced animatronics, projection technology, and immersive soundscapes to transport guests into these distinct environments.
The Tree of Life Theater, located within the iconic Tree of Life at the center of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, has hosted “It’s Tough to be a Bug!” in the past, featuring characters from Pixar’s A Bug’s Life. “It’s Tough to be a Bug!” opened with the park in 1998 and quickly became a popular experience for guests. The show, hosted by Flik, the film’s main character, offered an educational yet humorous look at the insect world, emphasizing the challenges bugs face in their daily lives. The 8-minute presentation combined 3D film, Audio-Animatronics, and various in-theater effects, such as air blasts, scents, and water sprays, to create a multi-sensory experience. Despite its lighthearted tone, the attraction was known for its startling effects, which could be intense for younger guests.
“Zootopia: Better Zoogether!” is expected to be a family-friendly show, appealing to both children and adults with its mix of humor, adventure, and heartwarming messages.
