Universal Studios Singapore Replaces Madagascar with Minions: First Look

Resorts World Sentosa

Singapore - Universal Studios Singapore will open a new area next year dedicated to Illumination’s Minions franchise: Minion Land. This new zone will replace the former Madagascar attractions.

Illuminations Minion Land will feature several distinct areas, including Gru’s Neighborhood, Minion Marketplace, and Super Silly Fun Land, three rides and various dining and shopping locations.

Gru’s Neighborhood

In Gru’s Neighborhood, you can experience the attraction Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem. This is a motion simulator ride with 4-D effects, where the seats move in sync with the action on a giant screen. Special effects like wind, water, and scents make the experience even more immersive. In Gru’s lab, Dr. Nefario’s Minion Gun transforms visitors into Minions. During the ride, they face a series of humorous and thrilling challenges, such as dodging laser beams, trampolines, and giant boxing gloves, and even trying to resist grabbing a banana.

Construction of the Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem attraction is currently in full swing. In the main theater, vehicles are being installed that will offer visitors a transformative Minion experience. These vehicles were designed and manufactured in the USA and have been transported to Singapore.

Super Silly Fun Land

In Super Silly Fun Land, guests can enjoy two attractions: Silly Swirly and Buggy Boogie, plus a brand-new restaurant. Buggy Boogie will be the world’s first Minion dance party carousel, brought to life with new music remixed by the Minions. This replaces the old King Julien’s Beach Party-Go-Round, a cheerful carousel featuring Madagascar characters, that seems to be re-themed. Silly Swirly is an aerial carousel, known from Super Silly Fun Land at Universal Studios Hollywood, where guests soar through the sky in a fun, swirly style.

Additionally, there will be games like Banana Cabana and Space Killer, the latter known from the first Minions film. There will also be a restaurant called Super Hungry Food Stand, an ice cream stand, and a popcorn stand called Pop-A-Nana.

Minion Marketplace

Minion Marketplace will be decorated as a street with unique buildings housing Minion-themed shops. It will include ‘Sweet Surrender – Candies & Treats,’ a ‘Fun Store’, ‘Pop Store’ and a Villains HQ with souvenirs. There will also be non-accessible shops like Hotel Banana, a pet store, the Bank of Evil, and Eye-Spy, an optometrist. The area will feature many Minions statues performing various stunts on the buildings facades and a stage for meet-and-greet sessions with the Minions.

Madagascar

The Madagascar area in Universal Studios Singapore closed in March 2022 and featured two popular attractions. “Madagascar: A Crate Adventure” was an indoor boat ride where visitors could embark on a journey through the world of the Madagascar films, meeting characters like Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria, King Julien, and the penguins, while dodging the villainous Foosa. This ride provided an immersive experience with animated figures, digital projections, and special effects. Additionally, there was “King Julien’s Beach Party-Go-Round,” a cheerful carousel where visitors could enjoy a ride on various Madagascar characters.
